Skin care is a bit of an obsession for me: not only do I want to look my best, but I love the relaxation and pampering that comes with my skin care routine. And this routine contains real beauty secrets!

But great skin doesn’t have to be elaborate, or expensive. In fact, many of my skin care musts are easy, all-natural, and won’t cost your whole paycheck. Here are my top four tips—taken straight from Mother Nature—for glowing skin.

1. Cleanse makeup with oil (counts as great Beauty Secrets!)

 Whether I’m sporting a full face of makeup, or just a few swipes of mascara, I always use natural, fragrance-free oil to wash it off. Regular makeup removers can strip moisture from my dry skin, and often don’t remove stubborn eyeliner or mascara.

Instead, opt for an all-natural, fragrance-free oil. It breaks down stubborn makeup and will leave your skin feeling moisturized. Just apply the oil to your face with a cotton pad, leave it on for a minute or two, and follow with a gentle cleanser. Your skin will be cleansed without being harshly stripped.

If you want to try cleansing your makeup with oil, try one that’s all natural with low acidity, like almond or avocado oil.


2.  Wake up your skin with dry brushing (this ought to be real beauty secrets unleashed)

 Have you tried dry brushing? It’s a great way to improve your skin’s circulation and get that glow, and best of all, it’s easy and cheap. All you need is a big wooden brush with soft bristles.

Dry brushing exfoliates your skin, and stimulates blood flow. Some experts claim dry brushing helps your lymphatic system to function efficiently. You can dry brush after you bathe, adding a dab of body oil or moisturizer to your brush, or before you bathe, and moisturize afterwards.

Simply take the dry brush and, starting at your feet, brush your skin upwards in gentle, circular motions. Work your way up from your feet to your neck and shoulders. I recommend a brush with a long, detachable handle, so you can reach your back easily. If you want to use your brush on your face, use even gentler brushing pressure, and only brush your face once or twice per week so you don’t over-exfoliate.

I recommend dry brushing first thing in the morning, before you shower. Not only will your skin thank you, but you’ll feel energized and refreshed at the start of your day.


3. Spritz with homemade green tea toner

 This is one of my favorite summer skin secrets, and one of the most economical. Green tea is packed with skin-friendly antioxidants, and you don’t just have to drink it to get its benefits. It also has a fresh, subtle fragrance that you’ll love.

You can make your own green tea skin toner simply by brewing 8-12 ounces of green tea for two to five minutes, and cooling it in a clean, airtight container in your refrigerator. Pour the cooled tea into a spray bottle. If you like, add a single drop of gentle essential oil to your toner (I prefer lavender or rose), and shake well before using.

Spritz your new toner on your face and neck any time your skin needs a quick refreshment. In the summer, I store my green tea toner in the fridge so it’s always nice and cool against my skin.


4. Break a sweat (and wash it off!)

 My last tip is the cheapest and easiest of all: exercise! A daily sweat-session will get your blood flowing, stimulate cell turnover, and naturally exfoliate your skin.

So how do you ensure that your fitness routine keeps your skin in tip-top shape? Keep yourself hydrated with lots of water (add at least one glass of water to your daily intake for every hour you’re exercising). This way, all that sweat won’t deplete your electrolytes or clog your pores. Make sure you’re exercising in clean, breathable clothes, and wash them after each workout. Even if your schedule is packed, just fifteen minutes of vigorous activity every day will still give you that glow. (Those are great beauty secrets!)

Start off with an energizing deep breathing session, to give your skin plenty of oxygen and get you focused on enjoying your workout. After you’re done working out, be sure to take a shower. All that sweat has powerful cleansing effects, but only if you wash off once you’re done.
